Directly affiliated by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Chang'an University is one of the State 211 Project key development universities jointly run by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Land Resources, Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Construction and Shaanxi Provincial Government. It is concurrently one of the key development universities of the advantage discipline innovation platform the State 985 Project. It is selected as one of “World First Class Discipline” universities as well.

The School of Economics and Management is one of the earliest professional colleges in Chang'an University. The school has four major categories including Transportation, Management Science, Business Management and Engineering and Economics, which totally cover 12 diversion majors such as Transportation (Transportation Management, including Excellent Engineers), Logistics Management, Business Management, Marketing, Accounting, Financial Management, Tourism Management, Project Management, Information Management and Information Systems, E-commerce, Economic Statistics and International Economics and Trade. The Transportation is the national-level characteristic major, and the provincial experimental area for talents cultivation mode innovation. In 2008, this major passed the first batch of engineering education certification issued by the Ministry of Education, then, it became our country's first batch of outstanding engineers training pilot specialty in 2010. Accounting majors cooperates with the world's largest international accountant professional group - the Australian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and it began recruiting base classes in 2015. The logistics management major was awarded the demonstration base of logistics talents training by the China Federation of Purchasing and Logistics. It was accredited as the Master of Engineering and ILT Mutual Recognition and Training Center by the National Engineering Master's degree Education Steering Committee and the Institute of Logistics and Transport (ILT) in 2010. The major of Project Management has been selected as one of the first-class disciplines in Shaanxi Province, and its teaching team has received several awards, such as the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, the Ministry of Science and Technology Achievement Awards and Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. The college has three provincial innovation teams and teaching teams, and three provincial boutique resource sharing classes, including senior logistics, transportation law, transportation enterprise management and so on. Meanwhile, the school of Economics and Management has a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center.

As of April 2019, the school has 170 faculty members, 142 of which are full-time teachers, including 25 professors and researchers, 61 associate professors and associate researchers, nine doctoral tutors, 74 master tutors, and 54 external graduate tutors. 94 teachers have doctoral degree; four teachers enjoy the government special allowance; nearly 20 faculty members were awarded various kinds of talent support projects at the provincial and ministerial level or above (e.g., the  New Century Talent Support Program). In the past 3 years, the school undertook nearly 100 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Fund and the National Social Science Fund. It also under took over 100 other types of research projects, which generated over 15 million RMB in total. More than 150 high-level papers were published during the past 3 years, and 26 monographs were published. Moreover, the school won 15 prizes of provincial and ministerial excellent achievements in philosophy and social science.

The school has two national key disciplines- Transportation Planning and Management, and Logistics Engineering Management. The discipline of Transportation Planning and Management is an important part of superior discipline group of transportation engineering for Chang'an University. It is a national key discipline, national 985 project advantage innovation platform and high level university construction discipline in Shaanxi province. Logistics Engineering and Management is a secondary discipline under the national key discipline -Transportation Engineering of Chang'an University. It has formed a national key discipline characterized by logistics integration, logistics integration field and industry linkage development.

The school recruits doctoral students in the two disciplines: Transportation Planning and Management, Logistics Engineering and Management. It recruits master degree students in the following fields: Transportation Planning and Management, Logistics Engineering and Management, Statistics, Industrial Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Technical Economics and Management, Management Science and Engineering. The school also recruits professional master degree students in the following fields: MBA (Master of Business Administration), MPAcc (Master of Professional Accounting), MEM( Master of Engineering Management), Project Management, Transportation Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Assessment of Assets.

In order to adapt to the development trend of internationalization of higher education, the school has continuously enlarged foreign exchanges and cooperation, and has established long-term communication and cooperation with foreign universities and scientific research institutions of the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other countries or regions. The school has achieved good results in the exchange of teachers and students, collaborative research, the introduction of high-level talent and other aspects. In May 2016, initiated by the School, the agreement of China-Korea Logistics Research Institute was jointly signed by Xi'an Academy of Social Sciences, Korea Central University, and Korea marine fishery development institute, which offered an important platform of exchanges and cooperation for modern transportation and logistics industry development of the countries and regions in Silk Road Economic Zone.

At present, with the continuous development of double first-class construction in Chang'an University, the discipline development of our school is becoming increasingly perfect, and the discipline characteristics are becoming increasingly prominent. In the future, the school will actively carry out the spirit of the National Conference on Undergraduate Education in Colleges and Universities in the New Age. Adhering to the orientation of undergraduate education, the school will realize returning to the common sense, returning to the original duties, returning to the original aspiration, and returning to the dream, and promote the returning of undergraduate education as the core task for running a university. We work toward building the school into a well-known SEM in China featured with institutionalization, characterization, internationalization, and modernization.
